If I can download a new computer by spending nothing more than a trivial amount
of time, money, and effort, then I will certainly get the new computer instead
of wasting my time with the old one.
See my point? ;)
I'm not saying that I wouldn't try to fix the old computer at all, but I
certainly would stop trying once I had spent a significant amount of time
without making any progress at all.
In the case of Galeon, I tried to solve the problem by installing every package
in Debian that seemed to be related to GConf, OAF, and bonobo. When this
didn't work I tried experimenting with various gconf-related utilities. I also
tried tracing through several configuration files that seemed like they might
have been relevant. None of my efforts helped in any way at all, so I decided
to stop wasting my time.
