no. not as a hardware problem (irq or similar) and not as configuration 
problem..

i will not be near that machine until sunday morning, but its the default 
version that comes with LM8.1 (i think its 2.4.17)

look above - i said that i did a network install using it, (installed RH 
via ftp)

yes it is (modprobe eepro1000) is what this card uses. this module was 
loaded by the kernel on boot.

trying to avoid that for now..for somy reason's that are not relevant to 
this topic. sounds wierd that an orig kernel will not load such a common 
device like an intel card.. > 
even wierder : both RH and LM smp couldnt deal with it.
