I would like to thank you for your time writing down your points of view. I when I wrote that review I did it out of pure dedication for the future of open source. I must first admit that I didn't write any project for the sack of publishing nor did I gone through sources of others. I do use open source applications and I enjoy testing them and see what new features they contain and I strongly encourage the continues of developing new software. as Tzafrir, Nadav and Shlomi mentioned (and very rightfully) building up new software even if there are similar products is blessed cause every one that tries to write something gives in some of his wisdom and talent and gains back experience and pleasure while doing so. I think that there is some kind of jungle low something like evolution of software that at the end ( which is not conclusive :-) the best projects gains more attention and there for they evolve better. in other words many start up project die maybe because their writes lost interest in keeping them up and going and some other projects got to be joined into larger and more successful ones. I don't think its something wrong and I also think its a natural way of things. as I mentioned in that article I think that there is some waste of good programmers time while working on project that are neglected at the end or does not produce a new break through in their field. I just wonder is there any way to save that and get a benefit to all community. from reading some issues about the subject I got the notion that open source even thou is "OPEN" not so many bother themselves to read something someone else wrote. Me for example find it some time much easier to get a new start for something I wrote in the past then to go over the source and figure it up again. by doing that I follow the steps of reinventing the wheel that I come so strongly against. I think that this resambles the process of starting a new projects that has the same goals as another one. the problem with that is that it is by some measures is a waste of valuable time. as for the examples: I put them in that article only to make few points.. I'm holding great respect to the people behind those projects ( KDE, GNOME ... ) and I think they produced great products for the use of all the community. I can just hope that many would join forces with those projects as well others and keep up the good work. I chose those specific projects out of no special reason except their familiarity to the public and I don't draw lines to the resambleness that they both have and say they compete one with each other. two of them are very mature projects with many generations. as some of you mentioned and very rightfully there are many great projects that run and give great products I mentioned the KERNEL project but I don't say it's the only one ( I'm sorry if that wasn't clear to some of you )( Gilad 10x for listing some of them:-). as for the <FLAMERs> I said I don't want to get into fights but I must give an answer to Herouth: I didn't used this mailing list for publishing our web site ( as you mentioned it your self "Well, we all know about it..." ). I've pointed to there as to any other website that would have say what I think. since I wrote that in Hebrew and I don't know if every one can read it because of fonts problems I didn't rewrite that for the list in English and posted it using the mailing list. other then that if you don't want to be directed to our site just don't press on the link to go there. you don't have a gun pointed to your head !! I personally think you missed that all IDEA but this is up to you and not for me to say what's right for you.
