This was a joke...
The official name is (I guess, I don't know who made it "official") is
"Israeli Group of Linux Users". But it can easily accomodate RMS's wishes
if we just pretend it means group of Israeli Gnu/Linux Users :)

I'm not calling RMS or his opinion a joke - the joke was that I pretended
our group's name already contains GNU/Linux in its name.
But I guess a joke isn't funny if you need to explain it :(

I use the "taarich" program (sort of like "date", for Hebrew dates) which
you can get in
        ftp://ftp.ivrix.org.il/pub/ivrix/src/cmdline/calendar/gauss.tgz

Alternatively, there's hdate, which you can get from
        ftp://ftp.ivrix.org.il/pub/ivrix/src/cmdline/calendar/hdate-5.01.tgz

>From the README in that directory:

gauss.tgz:
Implements a command 'taarich' to display the Jewish date (in Hebrew
or English) and a command 'luach' to typeset Hebrew calendars (with
holidays and parashot hashavua) using groff.
This package is by Dr. Zvi Har'El, and comes from
        ftp://ftp.math.technion.ac.il/calendar/
It is fully Y2K compliant :)
hdate.tgz:
Implements commands 'hdate' to display the Jewish date (in Hebrew
or English) and a command 'hcal' to show Jewish calendars on the
console (like the Unix 'cal' program).
This package is by Amos Shapir from 1992, with Y2K fixes by
        Nadav Har'El.

I run this taarich program automatically in my mutt by putting in my
~/.muttrc:

# put hebrew date on a header
my_hdr Hebrew-Date: `taarich`

# end signature file name with "|" if it is a shell command outputing the sig
# ~/bin/muttsig is my script to chose a random quip and show the Jewish date.
set signature="~/bin/muttsig|"

What do you mean you "can't" send me private email? See my email in my
signature below. Mail it. What happens?
