Installed and now I have xev.
OK: I found out that if I type
setxkbmap -option grp:switch,grp:shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll il
(BTW, there's a typo in the FAQ - it's -option and not -options)
I can type Hebrew characters, but otherwise my XF86Config-4 does not make
it so automatically. Here's the relevant portion out of my XF86Config-4:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard1"
Driver "Keyboard"
Option "AutoRepeat" "250 30"
Option "XkbRules" "xfree86"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
Option "XkbLayout" "il"
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:switch,grp:shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
EndSection
I use XFree86 4.2.0 release 10mdk.
