All I know that I hear much critisism agaist php-nuke (security issues, bloat?), but I can't see any local alternative. BTW: try browsing http://www.penguin.org.il/ or http://www.whatsup.org.il/ with lynx (to avoid the browser rendering time and images load time, and focus only on php running time).
