In the last year, on more than one occasion, I found myself trying to explain
to friends, "generic" Israelis with little or no computer experience, what
is this "free software" thing I'm so interested in, and what is this "Linux"
I told them they could use.

I looked for, but didn't find, an existing essay in Hebrew that outlines
what is Free Software and Linux, why they exist and what is their benefits,
aimed at beginners. So I wrote my own: "Free Software, the reason and purpose".

The essay is *in Hebrew* HTML (4.01 Transitional), and you can find it at

        http://nadav.harel.org.il/essays/chofesh/

For people who already read my essay from last year ("Liberte, Egalite,
Fraternite"): this new one is quite different. It is in Hebrew, shorter (about
half the length), and aimed at "amcha" less experienced in computers.
But it should still be interesting (I'd hope) to experienced people
because it makes good (again, in my opion :)) and new points about free
software.

Enjoy!
        Nadav.
