gang, you are my LAST hope.

i know I'm a lazy ass (most of the times) but this time i really did some
heavy reading and googling. came up empty.

XFree 4.2.1, GEforce II MX.

i installed (for some weird reason) mandrake 9 on my test machine to play
around with, and the nvidia card is giving me a hard time.
GLX and the nvidia kernel are compiled and installed, NVdriver is loaded.
if i change in XF86Config from "nv" to "nvidia" and uncheck "load glx" i get :

(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"
Using vt 8
(EE) NVIDIA(0): no HorizSync values remaining
(EE) NVIDIA(0): No modes remaining for Display Device 0
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

if i change it back to "nv" and disable glx, everything works normally (x
loads, no 3d support)

tried to check it out at #nvidia, but all i got there is a bunch of smart
asses who told me to look at the logs and RTFM.
do you know why this is happening ? is this a mandrake 9 issue, or am i
missing something basic here ?

tal.
