Konqueror pops up almost immediately on gentoo and with a little delay on 
Debian. Mozilla however does make a difference: about three seconds to start 
mozilla in ion on Gentoo and about six-seven seconds (I think) in KDE on 
Debian

The machine is P4 1.8 on SiS645 with 256DDR, with major gcc 3.2 optimizations.
