Hello list
following the discussion about how great (or not) gentoo is , i decided to
give it a try and install it on my laptop.
i went to gentoo.org and grabbed the livecd-basic-1.4_rc1-r2 image (it was the
only cd image available there)
after booting off the cd on my laptop i was prepared to follow the detailed
setup instructions on the gentoo site, but then the most interesting thing
happened. turns out that even though the installation manual has a very
detailed explanation on inserting the pcmcia modules (my internal nic does
not have a driver in the 2.4 series) when i ran the insmod pcmcia_core commad
i was greeted with "no module by that name"
after a bit of browsing through the directories i found out that the cd
excluded *all* pcmcia related files.
The system can be really great and optimized, but if a user cant install it ..
its worthless.
p.s. i do realise it says rc1 on it, but it is the only cd image available on
the *official* ftp.
FYI
