IIRC, on my system you have to press the <Tab> key in order to signal
lilo to wait for input and then enter init=/bin/bash. Or is it <shift> +
something? I haven't done that for a while. However the ability to stop
lilo depends on the lilo configuration, /etc/lilo.conf. Hopefully the
default configuration should allow you to do that.
