I made such a cable myself once from the schemes on the Internet (used a mouse cable and "tick-tack" box for it :)
Plus I had a private version of gnokii with ability to view/send logos.
This chip wasn't so hard to find though (the first electric parts shop on Hadar was enough) - look at the gnokii site for pointers. Several tens of shekels (as opposed to several hundreds of shekels as it is was sold by Orange)...

Subject: Nokia cable + Linux

I want to connect my nokia cellular to my Linux server using an rs232 cable,
I want to be able to receive/send SMS messages to/from the computer
and to use it as a RAS device.

Anyone has any experience?!

Thanks,
Tal.

BTW: if someone is trying to build his own datacable - the 'hard to find' MAX3232 chip can be ordered as a free sample from Texas Instruments (www.ti.com)
