I am on my second thinkpad nowdays, and it works fine with Linux. The
Thinkpad R series used to provide the best "value for money", but if
you can afford it, go for the Thinkpad T or A series.

(Disclaimer: I work for IBM HRL. Anti Disclaimer: I had a Thinkpad
since before working for IBM).

Beware of "no name" laptops... Linux might work, and might not, and if
it doesn't, you'll be hard pressed to find documentation for the
hardware inside. Better to go with a recognized brand name and google
beforehand to see that someone already got Linux working on it.

Hope this helps.
