This is one of the things you can stick on the background. You'll probably
need a -geometry argument.

Other useful things to stick:

* I use xmessage to add some extra text
* the package xteddy provides you with a teddy-bear, a tux, a dolphin and
  a host of other "puppets" to stick on the screen
