What is it that you people find so evil about Java and .NET?

Slightly off-topic:

One very practical issue:

Both are controlled by companies that limit their usage. Thus none would
simply "install" on my box, as opposed to a number of other higher-level
languages. And C. And C++.

Mono ? Free (as in speach and beer) standard compliant (mostly - trying their best) C# and .NET framework for unices.

There are also free Java environments around, although none are production quality.

The one thing common to Java and C# ( basicly because C# copied that from Java ) is that although these where created by corporations and not in universitied of public research centers (which is not a bad thing in and all by itself) the standard is free for everyone to implement.
