In order to minimize the potential loss of data, there are various
daemons such as pdflush and kjournald which periodically flush dirty
buffers to disk.

pages of memory (which includes the contents of files), as well as
various internal kernel structures. See /proc/slabinfo for a list of
slab caches, and /proc/meminfo for generic memory information.
