Hey

HP 3820 work well for me, and have official drivers for linux (known as hpijs)
it's cost something like 400 nis i think and worth any shekel.

I use it via usb (modprobe printer if u ask) and it's work like charm.
If you want  use parallel port or don't have usb - u can connect the printer 
via parallel port....
