I tried what Shlomi Fish had suggested, installed sndconfig and run it.
It said this sound module is not yet supported, it is strange since lsmod 
responded that there is a module named via82cxxx_audio loaded.

Following is the relevant part of lsmod output:

I previously installed on the same mother board Mandrake Linux 9.1 and it did 
work so I assume that the Mandrake Kernel support this sound module.
