Assuming we are talking about WiFi here (not sure how one would go about 
sniffing my cabeled network, except breaking and entering), IIRC all current 
WiFi equipment has some kind of optional encryption support, where data on 
the air is encrypted using a shared secret. I'm told its quite secure once 
you get it turned on.
