You didn't tell if you have Flash plugin installed or not. Best I have found is that if you have Flash plugin installed, then when you want to play some sound with your browser, OR sometimes when you want to type(why?) your browser wants to run another copy of esd or something like that... Try esddsp mozilla and see if anything changes.
