It would be nice if you would give us more details. It's probably
writing some more things, and if you know what and how you boot
(distribution, version, lilo/grub/something else) it would be nice.

Generally, when copying to a disk with a different geometry, you'll
have to reinstall the boot loader (lilo or grub). You can use a
rescue cd/floppy for that - I personally like knoppix (but if you
only download it only for that it's quite a long download - google
for smaller ones), or your distribution's cd, which probably has
some kind of rescue mode.
