In my final concluding statement I said that a translated installer could be nice. I never said it'll be totally useless. On the contrary, i would be happy if we had it. I also have plans to create remastered version for some Debian installation ISOs with all necessary packages for a Israeli/Hebrew user and maybe a little script that will set up all the Hebrew configuration as an installable option for people who liked Kazit (kazit.berlios.de). I was looking for a friendly installation process and considered PGI (http://hackers.progeny.com/pgi/) for a while, but right now it doesn't have i18n support, yet. I was looking for some other solutions and maybe the Debian installer could become a nice option for it. The last time I used an official Debian installation was 2-1.5 years ago when i installed my own system at home from a "woody" ISO(and never had to touch it ever since:) ). So forgive me if i said something stupid about the friendliness of the new installer. I didn't even try it yet. > > For sure, part of the remarks are true, but Debian Installer is > becoming really more friendlier....so newbies are a target.... > > Remember also that several institutions have chosen Debian as a basis > for custom distribution, for instance in educative environments (see > the SkoleLinux project, some french projects and the spanish region of > Estramadure general project of deploying Linux stations nearly > everywhere). Well, in Israel, right now, the government and educational system are only using linux and openoffice to get better deals from M$ and that gets me very pissed off =\ > > Having Debian as translated as possible is thus a kind of important > psychological criterion for such "world domination". :) > > This is why I strongly push for your language to be included in > supported languages (while I'm ushing for other languages still > missing....). > > Hebrew needs also BIDI support (correct me if I am wrong, I may be > ignorant on some topics).
