I often get phone calls from collegues telling me that I have a virus and
I should clean it. I answer them that I don't use Windows, and the virus
they got was from a mutual friend of ours, with my name forged on it.

Viruses rarely arrive from well-managed mailing list. This is because they
are usually blocked by various filters: mailing lists often block (at least
until a moderator approves them) mails that are too long, or contain
attachments (or attachments of certain types). I assume that linux-il's
mailing list manager does the same, and wouldn't have passed a virus into
the list.
