Eran,

I am using linux irda support (irda-utils + kernel modules) to operate my
SonyEricsson T68i as a GPRS modem, but I do that not through a Dongle (I
think that's how USB->IrDA thingie is generally called), but directly.

Check the kernel documentation for the supported USB->IrDA interfaces as
there are quite a few. I would also suggest to use one of the recent
kernels for that as this part is being heavily updated and it is being
aligned with the bugs and anomalities thar are quite common in cell-phones
industry.

Another thing to try is the Objex interface - it is the protocl used to
exchange objects with the phone (images, ring-tones, contacts, etc). I've
never got into it (I mainly need the modem function, so...) but it is
known to work just as well.

Here are a few URLs that have been rather helpful for me:

Good luck!
