hi

My harddrive is causing me real trouble. I hope you could help me.
I have a big vfat partition with windows xp that i want to resize
smaller. I freed more than enough space to resize it, but when I used
parted resize, in the middle of the "Moving Data" phase i got these
errors:
dma_intr: status=0x49 { DriveReady DataRequest Error }
dma_intr: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

they kept on, and even after doing a reset the computer didn't work.
only after powering down and up again the computer got back working.

this problem continued even when i disabled dma and all other stuff
using hdparm, however when i tried running badblocks on that partition
with dma on I got those errors again, but running it without dma
completed successfully without any badblock.

I don't believe my harddrive is failing because it is rather new, and I
read on debian mailing list archive that this "DriveStatusError" error
without any other error means that my harddrive doesn't understand a
command, and is ignoring it.

I'm using an intel motherboard with i815 chipset.
The harddisk involved is WDC WD600JB-00CRA1
I also have on the other on board controller a cdrom and a cdr.

Thanks in advance,
Haggai Eran
