I'd like to draw your attention to a new free software project (which I'm in charge of) which may come in useful to some of you. We all know the idea of dynamically changing the iptables ruleset on certain occasions. This can be to open ports (say, when a successful port-knocking happened) or to shut someone off (say, due to port-sentry detecting illicit connections).

There is just one problem with this. When do we revert this operation, and how? While it's fairly easy to add new rules, it's more difficult to properly remove them. This is where "temprules" come in. The project is on sourceforge at https://sourceforge.net/projects/temprules/, and has made it's first public release (alpha) today.

And I promise that this is the plug for this project you'll hear from me.... :-)
