GAIM supports SIP?

linphone is rather buggy from my expirince.

If you use Debian I'd recommend khpone. Just keep in mind to restart it
to make it use your settings.

NAT issues?

SIP is rather bad with traversing NAT. And the data stream is on a
different "connection".
