Right. From 1913 Webster dictionary, "gorm", or "gome", is the black grease they used to lubricate wheel axles, these of a cart or a wagon. I am referring here to certain lack of lubrication between moving parts of human decision making mechanism :) In fact, I've picked that pearl on www.userfriendly.org and did a research similar to yours, only to find that there is a equally ancient word I knew in Russian for that...er, product.
