Is there a way to shorten the time it draws these dots?
Do you have the "compact" option in lilo.conf ?
If you don't, try adding it.
Warning: NOT compatible with all hardware. Make a LiveCD/rescue disc
handy.
If you do, then... use GRUB. :-)
Ok, compact did the trick.
What is this stage of dots anyway?
IIRC, this is when LILO loads the kernel.
As for GRUB, I am not very familiar with it so I would not like to play
with something I am not familiar with.
I had that problem on an IBM laptop, and installing GRUB solved that
problem for me. Lately, however, I get a similar problem. From the
moment POST finishes and the GRUB menu loads as much as a minute can go
by. It's really really slow. Maybe I should go back to LILO with the
compat option...
Any ideas? I'll try to reinstall GRUB and see if it goes away.
