The electricity code forbids this anyway.

Does the electricity code has anything to say about compulsory grounding
at homes?

Yes it has but I have not read it. The GFI won't work if the ground is not ok.

'My' standard is to check between a local ground (f.ex. old pipe in the ground) and the ground/earth of a power socket. Anything above 1-2Vac with a/c on and in general high load (8PM is a good time to measure) means bad ground.
