FWIW: ipw2200 1.0.6 + ieee80211-1.0.3 + linux 2.6.12.3 worked for me for
several tens of hours without problems. I did not try other versions of
any of them because I do not use it regularly. It does indeed require
compiled (or at least configured) kernel sources of the running kernel,
but it wasn't such an issue for me, as I compile my kernels myself
anyway. Is this really such a problem? I think almost all distros have
their kernel sources packaged for exactly such needs.
