Non-mechanical... I assume that means no network block devices, no
logical volumes, device mapper snapshots, or anything else that is not
a JBOD. Correct? how about removable? if yes, are DOKs included? if
no, what about hot-pluggable SCSI disks?

In the vendor field, yes.

Yeah, it tells me the requirements are ill specified. See clarifying

I'd like to understand exactly what information the kernel is supposed
to know. What is your criteria for including some devices and
excluding others from your search?
