a 2005 version

The Singularity project <http://research.microsoft.com/os/singularity> contains new languages and tools, and a whole new architecture and operating system design. Singularity is built around three key abstractions: a kernel, software-isolated processes, and channels. Like other microkernels, most of the system’s functionality and extensibility exist in processes outside of the kernel. Each process has its own runtime system, with its own memory layout, garbage collection algorithm, and libraries.
