If you carefully read the GPL, you see that it only restricts what you
can or can't do when you want to redistribute the program. It basically
says nothing about changing it for your own needs. This has a very
simple reason - the GPL relies only on copyright laws, and these only
talk about redistribution, not about using (or changing). Note: IANAL.
