I have not checked ESX or GSX, just the player. I think there are just
vmmon and vmnet, and it looks like they are fairly careful about open
source licenses. They bundle OSS with the player, and the
documentation carries a summary (and texts) of licenses, etc. The
userspace stuff is closed, but that's OK. The modules, as I mentioned,
taint the kernel. In fact, I could not find an explicit license terms
specifically for the modules. If there is none indeed, I wonder if it
can be interpreted that the modules are under GPL by virtue of the
kernel license. IANAL.

I would be surprised if they were in gross violation, given their
visibility.
