No - do NOT use MD for anything except kiddie-games.

If you're using SATA - buy LSI SATA 150-6 or LSI SATA 300-8X and have a
nice hardware raid. Alternatively, use RAIDcore. Alternatively, use a
3ware. Alternatively, if you REALLY want an Adaptec, use a 2610SA or a
2620SA.
