No, the sound processor in the Fly Video chip only has one sample rate,
32kHz. It has nothing to do with the PCI bus speed. This is the
SAA7134, which is what many TV cards use.

My point was that the OSS emulation routines do not work properly,
the FC5 kernel only supports ALSA for the particular card and the 
compatibility option that VLC needs for the ALSA driver's OSS emulation
is no longer found in the kernel.

To recap, the VLC devlopment mailing list had a work around to use
the now missing option, and was never discussed after that. 

Mencoder works fine, so I can record.
