I want to help a friend set up a small group (~4) of machines in an academic environment. some of the old machines are weak and should just net-boot and get a local X with a chooser to a remote desktop, one machine is a workhorse, NFS server of /home and probably root-NFS server and desktop for the weak machines, and two machines are also CPU beasts that will run their sessions locally and possibly serve as remote desktop servers for the weaker machines as well.
so the three strong machines run NIS or rsync to keep the user list in sync and offer remote X, and the weaker machines are just X terminals, preferably over NFS root. I looked at Vamos and kannery and a few others, I was surprised Google produced so few results for such ready-made distros. any other options you recommend before I reinvent too many wheels? packeges in debian Etch or Sid (Or in Ubuntu) more than just "apt-get install diskless". I׃m talking about a x-terminal -like optimised setup. -- Not tested on animals Ira Abramov http://ira.abramov.org/email/ ================================================================= To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word "unsubscribe" in the message body, e.g., run the command echo unsubscribe | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
