I have a Windows Machine I would like to install Linux over that. What are my options? Does VMware have a free (and unlimited in time) version that I can use to install Linux on it? Is there any other solution?
VMWare Player is free as in beer. I use it to run WindowsXP on Fedora, but you can do it the other way around. You can also use a LiveCD- the Ubunut install disk runs as a LiveCD. That's probably better than using virtualization, but beware that the machine performs much slower than a regular install. What do you want to test in Linux? Just to get a general feel for it? Or do you want to test certain apps, internet connectivity, documents?
