of course it is, but it has a down side - your readers won't be able to
comment!

no idea, I didn't want to lose the few readers I have left so I never
installed one, but I'm sure google will send you to the plugins you
need.

another option is making them create a user on your WP before posting,
that's very reasonable, they log in once and keep a cookie.

another option is OpenID as an alternative to registering (another
plug-in)

I don't bother with any of them at the moment. anyone can post and
Akismet is doing a 99.999% perfect job. I wish Spamassassin was this
good.
