I'm not sure about how does the 012 VPN connects to the internet, nor do I know about the configuration of your Checkpoint firewall, but if you have trouble connecting to a relatively new VPN Server, it might be the fact that it uses the PPP MPPE encryption.
If this is the case, you'll need to make sure that you're using the latest version of linux-pptp an at least kernel version 2.6.18.
