An important self-correction: Dell was actually ready for a non-MS-encumbered deal (with meaningful price quote less than a quote with an MS OS included, given in the beginning), but, unfortunately, they don't carry any non-wide laptop. For those of you who seek a linux-only laptop and don't mind the (ugly IMHO) wide screen, I guess Dell should be the way to go.
