I do not think it was clearly mentioned previously - is it an openvz VM?
If so, AFAIK, it's not a VM at all - it does not have its own kernel and
its own modules. It's more like a chroot jail on steroids.

If it's openvz, I think you'll need to load it in the host.

Disclaimer: I never worked with openvz or virtuozzo, only read about
them. I did work with linux-vserver, and they seem similar enough that I
decided to reply anyway.
