There is a very interesting service called Zoho <http://www.zoho.com/>, that offer a lot more services then google apps or gmail. The only problem with it, is that it does not support BiDi at the moment (the only reason why I do not move to work with it), but the more requests for it, I think that the company will add it at the end.
Personally I use gmail for things that are not that important for me, like malling lists (90% of my usage in gmail), I recommend all people that do care about privacy etc, not to use gmail for more personal usage.
