If FOSS is what you are looking for, then you have drupal based solutions. Recently I'ved discovered a closed source system by IBM that does a lot more then this, and it has an amazing user interface (between facebook and google+). http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/connections/
You also have MS sharepoint. That's all the stuff I know about in this area.
