While the point of perf not being available to non-root out of the box are valid (though, it's just apt-get install linux-tools + echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/perf_event_paranoid away, and it's the best bargain you'll ever make), IMHO this is indeed apple vs apple comparison.
