When a process dies unexpectedly it may create a snapshot of its 
memory image.  This snapshot is called the core file and can be used 
for debugging or viewing post-mortem state of the process.

The command: file core.1415 will tell you which process created the 
core file.  If you're not into debugging, you can just remove all the 
core files without problems.
