First check out if you linux server is pinging to
vsnl.
If that is ok then open thefile /etc/sysconfig/network
and edit the line NETWORK=true . Also open the file
/etc/resolv.conf and put the following lines

nameserver 202.54.12.47
nameserver 202.54.1.30
