Dear Lv, a more proper answer could have been to tell him to check..
1. If the sound-server is started.
2. If the /etc/conf.modules loaded sound drivers properly.
3. If the 'PnP O/S' option is disabled in BIOS.
4. If the sound card is supported in Linux.
5. Do the IRQ/DMA etc match with those reported at the boot-time.
Answer to the questions 1, 2, 4 and 5 must be YES for sound to work.
