Actually, the boot sector of the partition (boot partition) must be within 1024 th cylinder, only then the lilo can be use [correct me if I am wrong] . So create a small boot partition at the beginning of the HDD. That's it . Lilo should be fine then. This problem normally occurs for big HDD ( eg 16.8 GB ) >> 6.
